SUPERFLEX is participating with a new large work in the Sharjah Biennial 11, 2013:
While many of the banks situated in Bank Street in Sharjah are finding more lucrative locations, another non monetary banking model could be taking over the street.
What if we were to regard the total sum of memories and stories of the people using Bank Street as the real capital of the street. And what if this new currency consisting of what we usually consider as insignificant memories of things and places, could be invested in the New Bank Street, and be converted into physical objects.
How about a credit default swap in the form of a rusty metal dinosaur from a Portuguese suburbia where you might have lived as a child or a ceramic pot use for storing drinking water in a neighborhood in Islamabad that would bring about a different kind of profit for the New Bank Street.
Perhaps the New Bank Street could function as an urban currency converter of such personal memories and stories. A place to negotiate non monetary investments of strange memories.
Our mission is to find the big picture in the extreme detail of a personal memory or story, which on the surface might appear insignificant, but once hunted down and enlarged become something big, eventually creating a great profit for The Bank.
The work will be carried out in collaboration with architect Jonas Maria Schul www.schul.dk
