Biogas PH5 lamp

In order to create a lamp for people living in areas with no access to electricity, an original PH5 lamp has been "modified"*, in Bangkok 2002, into a biogas lamp, the Biogas PH5 Lamp.

Originally designed in 1958 by Poul Henningsen, the PH5 lamp was meant for industrial production making it cheap to produce and hence accessible for a general population. Today it is one of the most widespread living room lamps in Danish middle class homes and was recently declared the best Danish design object of the 20th Century.

The Biogas PH5 Lamp is a rethinking of the original concept adapted for a globalised world.

* SUPERFLEX was presented with a cease-and-desist letter from Louis Poulsen Lighting A/S, the company who owns the copyright of the original PH5 lamp. Louis Poulsen Lighting A/S wanted SUPERFLEX to cease all activities involving the Biogas PH5 Lamp including using certain words.
