Super Metro
Super Metro turns time and space upside down. The familiar elements of the metro, such as information screens and travel card stands, have been attached to the walls and ceiling, seeming to defy gravity. In addition, some clocks at the station run unpredictably, the hands turning at different speeds and moving forward and back, creating a flexible sense of time. In the metro, one’s perception is challenged. Passengers travel through the tunnels to arrive at a station that looks similar to the one they left.
Super Metro suggests that traveling through the tunnels is like traveling through black holes: the clocks change speed, space curves, and the passengers grow younger on the journey. The ceiling becomes the floor and the floor becomes the ceiling. An invitation to lose oneself to speed, Super Metro transforms a commute through the city into a multidirectional journey through time and space, offering passengers the chance to imagine a world where the laws of nature are constantly shifting.
Super Metro was installed at Havneholmen Station in Copenhagen as part of the M4 line extension to Sydhavn and Valby, with support from Statens Kunstfond, the Obelske Familiefond, and the Villum Foundation.
